GB corset
France (for U.S. market)

c.1885. A heliotrope colored silk satin corset made in France for the American market.
"GB" is stamped on the brass loops of the long curved busk but there are no further
maker's marks or stamps on the corset. Although this particular corset does not have it, some GB corsets have "GB" and
"None Genuine Except Stamped A La

Couronne" on the inside.
The top of the corset has a narrow band of black lace trim. The bustline is very flared with
cording for extra support. The abdomen is very full as well. A flared bust and abdomen area
on a corset would have allowed someplace for the excess flesh to go to for maximum waist
reduction.
The corset is completely boned with whalebone and is lined in white polished cotton.
Measurements: Bust 33", Waist 21", Hips 33", Busk length 13".
