Kabo Girdle 801

United States
c.1900-1906. A white batiste wrap around corset made by Kabo. This corset is fairly unusual as it does not have a front fastening busk and does not use lacing at the back for adjustment. The corset merely wraps around and then would fasten at the front with a buckle or hook & loop. Unfortunately, due to the rarity of examples of this style of corset, the type of fastening which would have been used originally is unknown.
Because no lacing is employed and because of the awkward method of fastening the corset, extreme waist reduction would not have been possible and would have only achieved a maximum waist reduction of about 2"-3".
The corset is trimmed with cotton lace in which baby ribbon is inserted through it. The boning is made up of thin and narrow watchspring although the center front stay is wider and thicker. The inner waist tape has "Kabo Girdle Non Rusting 801" stamped on it while "Non Rustable" is stamped on the inside edge of of the corset.
Measurements: Waist 19" although the corset is stamped as 21. Center front stay measures 8 1/2" long.
