Y&N diagonal seamed corset

England
c.1895 Y&N Diagonal Seam corset made out of black Italian cloth with pink flossing. Matching pink scalloped trim decorates the top of the corset.
A brass spoon busk front with the original Y&N corset tag sewn inside the front seam. Spoon busks were especially popular with full figured ladies who needed extra support in the abdomen area.
Boned with watchspring and possibly whalebone. Features a heart-shaped bust, which became popular at the end of the 19th century for evening wear and cleavage enhancement.
The diagonal seaming gave the corset extra strength and created a more pronounced hourglass figure. The diagonal seams in this late Victorian corset differ from the diagonal seams seen in Edwardian S-bend corsets in the direction that they are placed. The diagonal seams on the Y&N corset start at the top front of the corset and curve backwards towards the backside whereas the diagonal seams on an Edwardian S-bend corset, start at the top back and curve towards the bottom front of the corset.
Measurements: Bust 30 1/2", Waist 22", Hips 28", 12 1/2" long busk.
